I love music. For all of my life, I have enjoyed a wide variety of genres and forms. Whenever the opportunity arises, I listen to music; at times I am even brave enough to try to play some of it myself. When others listen to talk radio, you can be sure that I will have some kind of music on in the background. Melody, harmony, tempo: these are great gifts from God. And when they are put together creatively, they may be deeply moving.
Music belongs to the Christian life; and, it belongs to the Lord’s Day. Over the years, I have found that one of the best ways to prepare for the Lord’s Day worship is to put some really edifying music on and let it’s words and sounds comfort our minds in anticipation of the privilege of serving the Lord. This means, of course, that some tunes and songs, appropriate for other days, are not really suited for a day devoted to the Lord and His service. My choices are narrowed by the purpose of the music for the day. For this reason, it is always good to find something new to add to the collection of appropriate sounds.
Recently, I received a sample copy of a wonderful new collection of hymns on CD called Rest Assured Hymns. It is excellent. Covering 10 familiar hymns such as What E’er My God Ordains is Right, O Sacred Head Now Wounded, and When I Survey, the CD is a perfect addition to a collection of solid and edifying Christian music. It is performed in a peaceful, folksy style using acoustic instruments, beautiful harmonies, and rhythms appropriate to the tunes. New tunes are employed, and these complement the lyrics nicely.
The title, Rest Assured Hymns is wonderful. It can have at least three referents: 1. You can be ‘rest assured’ that these hymns edify; 2. When you put on this CD, you will be able to ‘rest’, ‘assured’ by the soothing music and excellent lyrics; and 3. As you meditate on these hymns, your ‘rest’ in Christ will be ‘assured.’
In any case, buy a copy of this CD. It is wonderful.
"I have had the honor of knowing the artists of Rest Assured since I was a young girl. All of the ladies who were a part of this project added a bit of themselves to their music. I have enjoyed listening to this CD for many years now. It is an excellent and beautiful rendition of the old and a few more modern hymns. The peaceful quality to it is perfect for listening anywhere, and the lovely voices of the singers make you want to join in with them. Some of my particular favorite tracks were old hymns with new tunes. Also, there is quite a variety of tunes and music arrangements which makes the album even more enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend this album!" - Michaela W.

"I have been ministered to over and over and over by this sweet, true message in song... Thank you for all the work you beautiful ladies put into it! It is still blessing others! Some listen in the car, soothing them, some have their children listen as they go to sleep, some listen as a daily devotional! Thank you, ladies! Thank you Lord!" - Mavis N.
"Rest Assured Hymns remains a favorite even after all of these years since its release. I count it a privilege to know the ladies who sing unto the Lord as well as knowing the Lord of these hymns. Thanks for recording these great hymns so that they can be enjoyed for years to come." -Maggie D.
"What comforting music to listen to! Good for the soul. The lyrics have great depth and meaning and the instruments go perfectly with them." -Cindy K.
